The process for making carbon fibre bicycle parts can be complicated. When you add in the one-off custom element, this process not only needs to be the concept and prototype stage, but also the final production. This is the process from start to finish for creating the tailbox and lunchbox for my BMC TMR01 road bike. This covers the methods and process from initial shape definition and design, mold making, carbon layup and finishing. All work was done at home…

G Adventures head office is located in Toronto, Canada. They are quickly growing and need to expand their capacity. Previously occupying 3 full floors, they are now taking all 5 floors of their downtown brick and beam building. Major renovations were planned by perforating the front facade with large windows and opening up the main floor to create a single flow down to the lower level. Meeting rooms and facilities are places in the lower level and communal work space…

The opportunity to create a line of Adventure travel clothing and accessories was too great. G Adventures Gear came as a solution to a problem of having to outfit our trips with quality branded gear. Our people in the field needed clothing that performed well in all climates but also created global consistency. By planning outfits with manufacturing cycles, we rolled out a broad range of clothing that suited every situation for all trips around the globe. Products and gear…

The second (or third) version of the Carbon Lunch Box has a better securing system and, more importantly, a lid that opens automatically. This version fits up to 8 gels, or a combination of gels and bars. The idea to create a lid that was spring loaded came to me while trying to come up with a good solution to cover the opening. It was as easy as adding an extra extension to the lid that was hinged with rivets.…

This cmd about when I was looking to buy a new case to carry my everyday work essentials. There are lots of nice bags and boxes out there, different sizes and styles. But I soon realized I could easily make one for myself with scraps I had at home. Some leather left over from a chair, the sleeve of a friends shirt and a couple snap closures would do the job. Usually while sewing leather I'll pre punch holes with…

This is a custom designed awards cabinet made for the G Adventures office in Toronto. It maximized the useable space and helps highlight individual awards by giving each one a shadowbox frame effect. The cabinet was hand made by master carpenters and recessed in a 8' x 8' opening in the wall. It was lacquered for a high gloss purple and white finish, matching the adjacent custom kitchen cabinets and the companies corporate colours.

I am developing a carbon fibre bottle mount to be used on race bicycles. This one is for the aero extensions on the handle bars and holds a standard bottle cage and bottle. It’s called the Juice Box. The mounts are in early stages of testing, and will adapt to many different bar configurations, to accommodate different bikes and rider preferences.

It's called the Lunch Box. The boxs are in early stages of testing, but will be produced in multiple sizes and shapes, to accommodate different bikes and rider preferences.

These lights are the perfect piece to complement the Steve Jobs theme of this G Adventures meeting room. The custom built Nienkamper Metronome table and Herman Miller Sayl chairs  fit directly under the colourful iMac shells. Each one was tracked down and purchased, carefully disassembled, the interiors were removed, and the shells were then reassembled. They are hardwired into a wall switch, and can be all turned on, or dimmed. Photos by: Attit Patel
