The process for making carbon fibre bicycle parts can be complicated. When you add in the one-off custom element, this process not only needs to be the concept and prototype stage, but also the final production. This is the process from start to finish for creating the tailbox and lunchbox for my BMC TMR01 road bike. This covers the methods and process from initial shape definition and design, mold making, carbon layup and finishing. All work was done at home…

The second (or third) version of the Carbon Lunch Box has a better securing system and, more importantly, a lid that opens automatically. This version fits up to 8 gels, or a combination of gels and bars. The idea to create a lid that was spring loaded came to me while trying to come up with a good solution to cover the opening. It was as easy as adding an extra extension to the lid that was hinged with rivets.…

A recent trip to bike the back roads of Cuba with G Adventures turned out to be an exciting trip into rural towns and contrasting busy cities. The route took us west from Havana, as far as Viñales and through the towns of Soroa, Las Terrazas, La Palma and Cayo Jutias. The terrain varied from open coastal roads to some of the highest mountain passes on the island. The landscape also varied through the 6 days as well. Lush foggy valleys…

The mounts are in early stages of testing, and will adapt to many different bar configurations, to accommodate different bikes and rider preferences.

Monarch Treks is a small travel company that basses all its tours around travel by bicycle. Trips also include kayaking, hiking, surfing and snorkelling. Monarch has developed a travel system that they call "The Hub System", where you are based out of a central location, and take short trips out to visit the surrounding areas. I worked on creating an iconic image that could represent an emotion and concept of what it is like to tour a foreign country by bike.…

[gallery] Before my trip to Europe in late October, I felt it necessary to get a new camera. My previous digital had commited suicide a while before. I wanted something powerfull with great adjustability, but light enough to ride with around my neck. I got a new Canon G11. Everything worked out well, and my third love has turned out to be a gracious lover.

[gallery] With everybody and their sister having access to good carbon fiber out of Taiwan now, it is the smart companies and innovative designers that come out on top. Every company is trying to take their slice of the pie in the triathlon/time trial market. The bikes are used as a bit of a showcase to show how the company sees its self and how clever they think they are. Every small seemingly insignificant detail is tested, re tooled, and…
